About Costa Calida

The Costa Calida is situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula of Spain. To the north lies the Costa Blanca and to the south lies the Costa de Almeria with a total of 250 kilometres of coastline. Blessed by the mild Mediterranean climate it has at least 315 days of sun per year. Minimum temperatures range between 12-14C and maximum temperatures between 20-22C in winter. Summer temperatures vary between 18-20C minimum and between 30-35Cmaximum. The average annual temperature is 18C.

Of major tourist interest is of course the Mediterranean coast, Costa Calida ("the warm coast"), with beaches of fine sand. The salt-water lagoon Mar Menor and La Manga del Mar Menor offer great possibilities for water sports. The inland is desert, and there are several small towns, which still preserve their medieval structures.

Typical cooking includes stews, salads, roasted meat, rice, and of course great sea-food along the coast. Murcia also produces wine of high quality. The whole region is well worth taking the time to explore. The seawater is warm and very pleasant for bathing. It is unique in that there is a peninsula, which runs parallel to the coastline thus forming the Mar Menor (small sea). There are also many magnificent mountains and virgin beaches where access is difficult from the mainland. The Mar Menor is Europe's largest salt water lagoon - over 170 square kilometres of shallow water surrounded by the districts of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera, Los Alcazares and La Manga to name just a few. Cartagena is worth a special mention because of its historical interest. This town was for more than two thousand years a strategic Mediterranean port; surrounded by fortifications it encloses numerous fine archaeological remains.

La Manga Club with three 18-hole courses La Manga is one of the world's great resorts. A luxurious playground has been shaped on 1400 acres of lush, rolling countryside scattered with thousands of palm trees and surrounded by lemon groves.

The town of Mazarron, at the southern end of the Costa Calida is yet another area of outstanding beauty, with a striking mountain backdrop. The town has everything to offer in the way of entertainment, shopping, restaurants, bars and all you would need in the way of amenities. There are beautiful beaches, some quiet beaches and some fun beaches with water sports, small coves to be explored and a marina.
