About St Lucia

St Lucia is located in the Eastern part of the Caribbean ocean, in the island group named "Windward Islands". St Lucia is a former British colony, and is a part of the Commonwealth. Tourism has been increasing significantly over the last few years, and the St Lucian government are making substantial investments in the country's tourism industry to further accelerate growth. Large parts of the island is a national reserve, and many tourists come there to experience the "unspoiled" Caribbean.

The capital of the country is called Castries, and it has around 50,000 out of the country's 140,000 inhabitants. The native language is English, and a local version of French (patois) is also widely spoken by the locals.

There are two airports, one is located just outside Castries and caters mainly to smaller aircraft, and Hewanorra Airport in the south. Flights are available from the UK thru British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, and the flight time is in the region of 8 hours, making the Island no harder to reach than the American East coast!
